D 6.1 –EVALUATION PLAN FOR THE XCYCLE INTEGRATED SYSTEM

Kurzfassung

In addition to the technical evaluations done in WP3 and WP4, in this work package, the systems developed in XCYCLE will be evaluated for acceptance and usability, whether end users are willing to invest in the systems, and whether the benefits outweigh the costs. This deliverable describes the methods that are to be used during the evaluation process. A willingness-to-pay study with cyclists will investigate whether a business case exists for a bicycle-based support system, and how much such a system may cost. Acceptance and usability will be investigated both directly, by asking the end users through questionnaires, interviews and similar methods, as well as through behavioural observation. This will be done for all systems developed in the project, also considering combinations of different systems, which will lead to improved system performance. Finally, the cost benefit analysis will not only consider monetary costs, but also weigh in factors like comfort, influences on travel time, and perceived safety. Thus, the full impact on cyclists in Europe will be evaluated.
