Abstract

The development of new technologies for large-scale electricity storage is a key element in future flexible electricity transmission systems. Electricity storage in adiabatic compressed air energy storage (ACAES) power plants offers the prospect of making a substantial contribution to reach this goal. For further improvements in cost efficiencies and flexibility, system modifications are necessary. Viable approaches are hybrid process schemes and the integration of power-to-heat techniques. The present contribution outlines the conceptual work on such semi-adiabatic plant configurations elaborated in the BMWi-funded project ADELE-ING.
