Abstract

To further investigate the edges of the flight envelope of complex 3D transport aircraft configurations by the use of numerical methods, URANS maneuver simulations were performed within the DLR project L-bows and the LUFO IV project HINVA. The aim of the maneuver simulations within the project L-bows was to improve the understanding of the flow around a realistic transport aircraft configuration during approach and touchdown. Within the project this was necessary to improve the wake vortex prediction for this critical flight phase by a coupled RANS-LES approach. The project HINVA focuses on the C Lmax prediction by the use of flight tests, wind tunnel tests and CFD simulations. The URANS maneuver simulations in HINVA were set up to improve the understanding of the unsteady aerodynamics during a stall maneuver. Thereby, the stall maneuver simulations also take fluid structure interaction into account. This paper will show the results of the URANS simulations within the projects L-bows and HINVA. Furthermore, the process chains used to achieve these results will be presented.
