Abstract
The Aeroliner3000 train concept, developed by Andreas Vogler Studio (AV Studio) architectural practice and the German Aerospace Center (DLR), is one of the three finalists in the international 'Tomorrow's Train Design Today' competition. The focus of this competition is to develop innovative solutions for the future high-speed rail transport in Great Britain. Using innovative technologies and an optimised design, the Aeroliner3000 demonstrates that a comfortable double-decker high-speed train is a promising solution for the British rail network. The Aeroliner3000's double-decker carriages provide 20-30 percent more seats than the reference train used in the competition. Consistent use of lightweight construction techniques that reduce the weight of the car body by 16 percent and aerodynamic optimisation of the entire train reduce operating and maintenance costs and limit carbon dioxide and noise emissions.
