Abstract

Based on blade element/momentum theory the aerodynamic impact on rotor blade flapping caused by a straight line vortex lying in the plane of a rotor disk is solved analytically for the first time using a realistic swirl velocity profile. The consequences on rotor coning and cyclic flapping motion can thus be computed in closed-form. Results are given for a rotor subjected to a wake vortex of a large aircraft and for that of a large wind turbine.
