Abstract

In the frame of the EU FP7 project ABLAMOD test campaigns were performed in DLR’s arc heated facilities L3K and L2K on samples of ablative materials, i.e. ASTERM, TPS3L and SV2. These three different materials are designed to be used for different mission Scenarios of atmospheric entry, which differ in the enthalpy and pressure level. Tests were run at six different test conditions with a systematic variation of heat flux, stagnation pressure and gas composition. This document describes all activities related to the ablation test campaigns, in particular the experimental setup, the applied measurement techniques, the most important results of each individual test and the main conclusions that can be drawn from the campaign.
