Kurzfassung
The recently launched TerraSAR-X satellite carries the first civilian X-band SAR system in space. It provides a 3m ground resolution in stripmap mode and an 11-day repeat orbit. The Spotlight or ScanSAR operating modes can used to enhance either spatial resolution or swath width depending on the region and phenomenon studied. This high spatial resolution and short repeat interval can support studies of highly localized surface displacements with a dynamic temporal evolution that have previously suffered from temporal and/or spatial aliasing. Although temporal decorrelation must be expected to be more problematic at X-band compared to longer wavelengths (C- or L-band), the high-bandwidth data will be more suitable to Persistent Scatterer (PSI) type analyses. We present the first interferometric observations using TerraSAR-X SAR data and compare its properties to those of C-band interferograms.
