Abstract

For the last several decades, infrared observations have been used in the investigation of different regions of the universe that could not be performed in the visible. Several infrared observatories have since been running astronomical observational campaigns, both photometry and spectroscopy measurements. These are either on ground, in space, or airborne such as SOFIA. The airborne observatory SOFIA is a joint US (funded by NASA) and German (funded by DLR) mission for infrared astronomy. The first part of the presentation is about SOFIA mission and scientific capabilities. The second is about one of the fundamental topics in Astronomy which is the study of star and planet formation.
