Abstract

With a growing composite market there is an increasing need for innovate bonding and repair processes. This paper will focus on the heat generation for such a process. Induction heating is an innovative and flexible method to perform that task but comes with the disadvantage that it is difficult to achieve a homogeneous temperature distribution. In order to improve this point, a new coil geometry with the ability to create a rather uniform temperature profile on a susceptor material is presented. In addition to that different susceptor materials were analyzed. A prototype with the new coil design was built and a field test was carried out to proof its usability. The described application is a good expansion to today’s induction technology. It could help to simplify the manufacturing and repairing process of composite materials and shows a new approach to composite welding.
