Abstract

An experimental rocket, using a hybrid rocket engine, developed by the student group HyEnD (Hybrid Engine Development) is designed to reach an altitude of over 20 kilometers. Two rockets have been built during the project. The rocket MIRAS (MIcro RAkete Stuttgart) is a technology demonstrator used to gain experience in manufacturing and operating hybrid rockets. In parallel the HEROS (Hybrid Experimental ROcket Stuttgart) rocket is developed. It is designed to reach the mission objectives required in the STERN project. The design, calculation und manufacturing of the HEROS rockets structural elements, using fiber reinforced plastic, is subject of this thesis. The application of integral structure components in the design of fins and the oxidizer tank is investigated. Cost efficient manufacturing methods of fiber reinforced plastic regarding to prototype construction is described. A flight test is conducted to evaluate the rockets design.
