Kurzfassung
Flying has become an indispensable way to travel and to transport cargo in the last decades. The increasing number of flights threaten to overwhelm the Air Traffic Management (ATM) system in the near future. In order to keep guaranteeing the safety of flight and the air-traffic efficiency, ATM system is being modernized. The main candidate to become the new aeronautical communications system is LDACS1. This system is expected to be deployed in the L-band (960-1164 MHz) within the following years. In order to evaluate the compatibility of LDACS with the current systems of the L-band (DME, SSR, JTIDS,...), diferent studies have been carried out. In this work, the potential impact of LDACS1 upon the military system JTIDS has been evaluated. The impact of LDACS upon JTIDS has been quantified by comparing the performance of JTIDS in two different scenarios; with and without LDACS interference. In order to obtain the performance of JTIDS, both systems have been implemented in MATLAB and simulated in the different scenarios. The obtained results have been evaluated and conditions have been extracted, under which the presence of LDACS does not affect the functionality of JTIDS. Based on the obtained results, it has been concluded that the future deployment of LDACS is not expected to have a significant impact upon the JTIDS system.
