Abstract

Within an automated framework, a structural design process is built that increases the number of design concepts applicable during the optimization of composite wings. By applying this framework in an optimization process, the influence of structural design concepts and allowables can be evaluated in early design phases. To be suited for a fast optimization, the process is set-up to deliver structural gradients, also for Multidisciplinary Design Optimization processes. By using Detailed Finite Element Models (DFEM) representing super-stringers, also structural details can be modelled for later on design processes. The framework is presented and the simulation approach is investigated regarding its accuracy. The paper concludes with a brief study of the allowable influence on a stiffened composite structure.
