Abstract

Usage of remote sensing technologies for the understanding of hunting landscapes It is undeniable that we have rising utilisation demands towards the cultural landscape and in some regions this fact leads to serious controversies. The solution for excessive usage demands, especially for competing usage demands, has to be a social balancing of interests. The corresponding discussion is quite controversial in some parts, which means that it requires several extensive information in order to objectificate the discussions and find compromises. One data basis concerning hunting and game keeping would be the hunting registry, which holds information on huntable (parts of) meadows, owners, fellow hunters, tenants or the owners of territories, This forms a limited area for remote sensing, even if there's no additional information on the hunting landscape. Because research and solutions on wide-ranging environmental problems base increasingly on remote sensing, the accessibility, security and integrity of data have high priority. With remote sensoring one can measure environmental parameters or gain complex information on the environment that is suitable for tracing cause-andeffect relations. Using the example of the analysis of landscape structures on data from remote sensing with scientific aspects, we were able to show that structural habitat requirements of deer can be used to determine potential patterns of distribution of game within the landscape, while including hunting aspects. In order to gain information for the characterisation of a hunting landscape it is reasonable to use pre-existing or developing operative monitoring programs.
