Abstract
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) carries out research activities regarding innovative technical solutions for high-speed trains within the Next Generation Train (NGT) Project. In this context, the DLR Institute of Vehicle Concepts developed and implemented a novel Crash concept for the NGT ultra-high-speed train (NGT HST) intermediate waggon zones. The pursued solution shows how an efficient, lightweight and structurally load-bearing Crash concept can be established. It is intended to not only design the energy absorbing crash modules as light as possible, but also the subsequent structures of each car body. Based on the results of the development and to generate further findings, a full-scale prototype has been designed, which will be tested on a crash test rig at preferably realistic conditions in spring 2016. Crash simulations considering crash test configuration parameters have been carried out in prior and the results are shown. Forward-looking the results will be used in further steps to verify the crashworthiness requirements made in EN 15227.
