Abstract
The German Aerospace Center has with the Center for Lightweight Production Technology a unique facility to research composite production in an industrial scale. The GroFi® facility is one part, which is used to examine automatic tape laying by robots. Thin-plies are a promising approach in overcoming some of the disadvantages of conventional material. This offers interesting fields of application. But for a wider use it is necessary to overcome the biggest disadvantage of thin-plies by automation. Therefore this paper presents the results of the first automatic lay-up trials at GroFi® facility and the approaches to overcome the occurring problems.
