Abstract

The work conducted during the internship concentrated on the measurement of material mechanical properties and especially of the critical energy release rates, which are necessary as input in the delamination models available in a lot of explicit FE-codes. These critical energy release rates are mechanical values defining the energy necessary to propagate a crack in a composite material. This crack can propagate under tension, shear or torsion load leading to the respective energy release rates GIC, GIIC and GIIIC. During the internship, the following tests based on AITM standards were performed: the Double Cantilever Beam (DCB) and the End Notched Flexure (ENF) tests to determine the GIC and GIIC parameters respectively
