Wind-tunnel data on mean velocity characteristics of an incompressible flat-plate turbulent boundary layer obtained with Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) are in focus. The measuring technique used in the study is found as being quite reliable in determination of the mean flow pattern close to the surface, including the viscous sublayer in the vicinity of the wall, despite a rather conventional PIV set-up was used. Details of the present set-up which seem helpful during experimental work on subsonic near-wall turbulent flows are reported.
