Abstract

This Technical Note summarises discussions between DLR, A-D (Airbus Deutschland) and partners to define realistic large damage scenarios for composite panels. Typical impact damage observed in gas gun tests with hard and soft body projectiles are briefly summarised. Proposals are made for the DLR gas gun test programme in T232-02 in the form of a high velocity impact (HVI) test matrix summarising a range of impact test conditions and the required composite panels for delivery by A-D. The tests will show the extent of real impact damage in idealised composite panels, and will assist in the definition of the idealised damage conditions for use in the panel residual strength tests in T232-03.
