An incomplete set of complex modes, in which the number of modal coordinates is less than the number of physical coordinates, maybe used to compute the corresponding set of normal modes. Through decomposition, a transformation matrix can be found and used to transform the system back and forth between the physical coordinates and the model coordinates. Simulated experiments are included in support of the proposed investigation.
