The behaviour of the static lateral stability characteristics for Osculating Cones Waveriders in sub- and transonic flow is discussed. Two waverider shapes with different planform, derived from integrated predesign studies, were chosen for the numerical investigation. The inviscid flowfield is calculated with the DLR Euler/Navier-Stokes Code CEVCATS. the influence of grid fineness and viscous effects on the solution was analyzed. It is found that the stability characteristics of both configurations are strongly influenced by vortical flow along the entire Mach number range under consideration. Both configurations show a stable behaviour at high angles of attack. However, at low angles of attack the directional stability is lost due to the behaviour of the leading edge vortex. In transonic flow the shifting terminating shock leads to an increases of the static lateral stability and a decrease of the directional stability.
