Kurzfassung
The design of the carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) grid interstage of the microsatellite launch vehicle VLM-1 is done based on the stiffness, stability, strength, and secondary requirements. The stability behaviour of three different grid interstage geometries is investigated using computationally inexpensive parametric finite element (FE) beam models. The trends of the critical buckling load, the buckling mode and the changes in buckling modes based on geometric parameters are determined. The beam model stability and strength results are then compared to the results obtained with a more refined and accurate shell finite element model of the same grid geometry. Design guidelines for a preliminary design of the CFRP grid interstage geometry are formulated.
