Solar Thermochemical Fuel Production – Overview on the work carried out by the German Aerospace Center DLR

Kurzfassung

Since the 1980s DLR works on technologies for converting concentrated solar radiation into fuels. The presentation will give an overview on the development lines DLR is following over the last 25 years to raise the TRLs from lab-scale to large scale demonstrations on solar towers. It will focus on the actual technical stage. Especially projects carried out in German and European programs on thermochemical splitting of water and CO2 and their links to US programs and projects will be discussed. Additionally other high temperature processes will be presented like steam electrolysis, cracking, or steam and dry reforming of methane.
