Kurzfassung
Metamaterial technologies open up new possibilities in the design of antenna systems, radomes, and absorbers. A metasheet is a two-dimensional metamaterial which is composed of a single layer of electrically small polarizable particles of optimal shape. The goal of this paper is to analyze electromagnetic properties of the metasheets that are built from reciprocal bi-anisotropic particles: the uniaxial chiral particle and the omega particle. Both are complex-shape particles which couple the electric and magnetic fields and belong to the four fundamental classes of bianisotropic particles. Firstly, electromagnetic scattering from a single particle is studied, and the scattering properties of the omega and chiral particles are compared. Either particle is capable of significantly reducing / increasing the backscattering at specific frequencies. Secondly, reflection and transmission properties of planar arrays of the particles are addressed. In particular, the resonant response of the metasheets is studied as well as the effect of the particles’ dimensions, the unit cell size and polarization of the incident wave on the reflection coefficient. Simulations are performed with the commercial software HFSS.
