Kurzfassung
In this study, the potential of laboratory thermal infrared (TIR) reflectance spectrometry as a tool for a quantitative mineralogical analysis of particulate samples is demonstrated. Quantitative methods are presented for the mining dumps of Zwenkau (active) and Espenhain (abandoned) in the Central German Lignite Mining District. Quartz and kaolinite were successfully determined using distinct absorption features in the 8-10um wavelength region. Both original samples and homogeneous material (grain size < 63um) were analyzed to account for the effects of varying grain sizes of the mineralogical components. To allow for a spatial mapping of these parameters within the mining dumps, DAIS 7915 imaging spectrometer data were investigated.
