Kurzfassung
The influence of strong density gradients on the accuracy of model deformation measurements by means of the Image Pattern Correlation Technique (IPCT) was investigated for a 2D-NACA0010 airfoil in the Transonic Wind Tunnel Göttingen. To ensure a visible aero-optical effect the measurements were performed at Mach 0.8 and 0.85 at angles of attack of up to 5°. Ray tracer simulations based on numerical simulation of the flow were used to optimize the test set-up and to compare the measurement results with the CFD simulations. The measurements performed demonstrate that the view direction of the cameras with respect to the shock has a strong influence whether an aero-optical effect can be observed or not. The comparison with CFD calculations by means of a ray tracer method showed that the ray tracer is an appropriate tool to optimize the experimental set-up.
