Kurzfassung
Unsteady Pressure Sensitive Paint (PSP) measurements have been carried out in the free-piston-driven shock tunnel (HEG) at the DLR in Göttingen. The test model was a ramp of length 8.5 cm, coated with a PtTFPP luminophore; it was placed at an angle of 15° in a low enthalpy (h0 = 3.4 MJ kg-1) Mach 7.4 flow. Images were taken at a frame rate of 5 kHz for 10 ms. The figure shows a typical 2D image (top of figure) of pressure distribution on the surface, taken at a time when the tunnel flow had been established. In the plot at the bottom of the figure the pressures measured by a Kulite sensor at the position shown are compared with the neighbouring values obtained from PSP. It can be seen that the response time of the chosen paint is sufficiently fast to allow a faithful recording of pressure change to be made.
