Kurzfassung
Europe’s largest launcher Ariane 5 is in a permanent process of increase in performance, reliability and cost efficiency. This especially concerns important subsystems of the launcher like the main engine Vulcain. An increase in thrust for the future launcher supplied with a larger propulsion system requires accordingly an increase of Europe’s test capacity for this new rocket engine. A review of the limits of the available test facilities versus the new requirements has to be performed. The thrust level of this engine and its design features will be the main input parameters for the upgrade of the test facility. In parallel to a roadmap to this rocket engine itself a possible routing for the upgrade of the test capacity for this new rocket engine shall be studied.
