Kurzfassung
The presented work is concerned with thermal comfort in aircraft cabins. Focal point is the flow within cabin-air outlets and special attention is given to the modification of an existing outlet in order to homogenize the air jet profile at the outlet vents. This study gives an impression of experimental investigations of the flow characteristics within original and modified cabin-air outlets of the Do728 aircraft. Thereto, smoke visualisations have been performed. A further focal point is the numerical simulation of the flow field in the original and modified cabin-air outlet. In particular the development of the flow field within the air outlet and its dependency on geometrical constraints is an essential part of the work and starting point for a geometry modification of the outlet. Special attention is paid to the development of the local flow streaming down to the outlet vents and the interaction of generated vortices within the cabin-air outlet followed by the formation of the air jets in the outlet vents.
