Kurzfassung
The workshop titled “Aerodynamic Database Validation and Update from Flight Data” focuses on procedures and techniques used during the subjective and objective validation and subsequent update of aerodynamic models for use in training simulators and other engineering applications for fixed wing, rotary wing and other flight vehicles. The workshop is open to all and addresses both civilian and military applications. The workshop will consist of two parts. The first part consists of an introductory presentation on the background of the subject and raising the issues to be addressed in the workshop. It covers judicious choice of dynamic and performance flight maneuvers, commonly adopted procedures for consistency checking of recorded flight data, two different approaches, namely based on matching of aerodynamic coefficients and based on matching motion variables via 6 degrees-of-freedom simulation, to verify the fidelity of pre-flight aerodynamic databases generated through sources such as analytical predictions, wind tunnel tests and CFD computations, and the commonality and limitations of the two approaches. The second part of the workshop is intended to provide a common platform for open discussion on various issues, problems, niches and solutions, where the participants will have an opportunity to share their work and discuss approaches adopted and problems faced by them.
