The World Data Center for Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere (WDC-RSAT): Facilitating Research on Earth System Modelling

The International Council for Science (ICSU) recently approved the establishment of a World Data Center (WDC) for Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere (RSAT), hosted by the Cluster for Applied Remote Sensing at the German Aerospace Center. One of the most important user groups being targeted by this WDC is the scientific community developing, running, and/or validating earth system models. These activities require data representing variables and parameters of the systems under investigation, and the WDC-RSAT offers such data from an increasingly easy to use web portal. The available data related to the atmsopehre is always being updated as sensors, missions, and assimilation techniques are added or improved. The talk will cover the data and services provided by WDC-RSAT, including data assimilations done at DLR-DFD as well as some of the service provided by other organisations and which are mirrored on the WDC site.
