Kurzfassung
Transpiration cooling is a major candidate to cool down hot structures, if TPS material’s capabilities will be exceeded. Arc jet screening tests in the LBK facility of DLR Cologne have been performed with porous samples C/C, C/C-SiC and WHIPOX and coolant gases N<sub>2</sub>, Ar, He and air. Significant back side temperature reduction has been observed for maximum back side temperatures between 450 and 760 K for L2K and between 800 and 1030 K, respectively. For quasistationary conditions, sample undersurface temperatures decreased by up to nearly 50%.
