Kurzfassung
As part of the Hermes program, the first industrial test campaign was achieved in the DLR High Enthalpy Shock Tunnel in Goettingen (HEG) by the end of 1993. These tests were conducted by Dassault Aviation according to an ESA contract. Tests were carried out with two models. The first one (3036-2), is a pathfinder devoted to investigate model feasibility for studies of wall temperature influence. The second one (3041), is a complete Hermes model used for heat transfer and pressure identification of Hermes shape 1-0. Nonintrusive measurements in laser induced fluorescence (LIF) and holographic interferometry were performed. Several derivatives such as repeatability, enthalpy level. Reynolds number, catalytic and non catalytic coatings were investigated. In this paper, after a brief description of the shock tunnel and its operating mode, we will present the heat transfer and pressure results achieved in these tests, and we will compare them to cold wind tunnel results.
