Kurzfassung
For the first time the unsteady flow field above a airfoil airfoil oscillating in pitch has been investigated in a wind tunnel by means of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). Due to the short measuring time of only a few microseconds instanteneous flow fields could be measured. The unsteady flow fields above an airfoil under deep dynamic stall conditions (oscillation frequency f = 6,6 Hz) have been measured in the subsonic wind tunnel of the French German research Institute of Saint Loius (ISL). A number of numerical studies of this problem have been already carried out. Experimental flow field data are required to validate these numericalcalculaitons. Two different flow conditions were realized in order to obtain a flow field similar to that above a retreating rotor blade of a helicopter. First, a reduced frequency of omega * = 0.3 has been choosen to get results for a comparision with other experimental and numerical investigations.
