Kurzfassung
This presentation aims to give a quick introduction into the applications of genetic algorithms on the design of navigation satellite constellations. To provide the necessary background the first section covers the definition of different orbits and their characteristics, this is followed by a brief history of satellite constellations and current trends. After this current global navigation satellite systems are explained as well as their function. Based on this and corresponding challenges the next section covers the need for augmentation constellations and their different designs. Then the difficulties of constellation design are covered which leads to a short introduction to genetic algorithms and finally it is shown how these topics all come together to form simulations to find optimal constellation designs.
