Kurzfassung
The Low Noise Augmentation System (LNAS) is a pilot assistance system that optimizes energy management during approach, reducing noise and fuel burn. Between 2019 and 2025, it was tested in regular operations with Lufthansa's A319, A320, and A321 fleet at Frankfurt Airport. From over 16,000 pre-analyzed flights, 140 LNAS flights were compared with 140 reference flights under similar conditions. Results show delayed gear/flap deployment, minimal spoiler use, reduced engine thrust, and more predictable descent profiles. Noise monitoring confirmed peak level reductions of 0.5-2 dB and fewer extreme outliers. On average, 8.2 kg (around 4%) of fuel was saved in the last 20 NM of the approach. This longtime use of LNAS demonstrates clear benefits for quieter, more efficient landings in an operational environment and supports the future integration of advanced procedures such as Continuous Descent Operations and energy management recommendations, contributing to more sustainable aviation.
