Kurzfassung
The aim of the DLR COMPASSO mission is to demonstrate quantum optical technologies in space using the Bartolomeo platform on the ISS. The core payload consists of an iodine reference, an optical frequency comb and a laser terminal, which enable high-precision time and frequency transmission as well as highly accurate distance measurements via laser links to DLR's optical ground station in Oberpfaffenhofen. This technology has the potential to improve navigation timing and positioning services and also to contribute to scientific satellite missions, such as e.g. GRACE-FO. COMPASSO paves the way for the long-term operational use of optical technologies in future Galileo systems and beyond.
