Kurzfassung
The Copernicus Atmospheric Monitoring service (CAMS) provides surface solar irradiance (SSI) through its CAMS radiation service (CRS). This paper aims to present the recent improvements, their evaluation including different sky conditions cases and the service evolution of CRS. The recent version CRS v4.6 uses APOLLO_NG cloud detection and retrieval scheme that is highly optimized for solar energy usage and modelled data from CAMS Integrated Forecasting System (IFS) new cycle 48r1. Prior to the current version, the service covered Europe and Africa with Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) field of view (FOV) which is now operationally extended to Asia and Australia using the third generation of geostationary satellite HIMAWARI 8/9. The first evaluation of CRS v4.6 against ground measurements shows median biases of GHI around 2% in MSG and HIMAWARI FOV. The assessments of the CRS versions evolution for different cloud conditions show bias improvements throughout the version updates
