Kurzfassung
Hydropower is an essential component of sustainable energy supply in Germany. However, the pressure on available water resources is increasing. In addition to higher demand, our available water resources are constantly decreasing due to climate change. Central Europe has been suffering from drought coupled with frequent extreme weather events for many years. Both are counterproductive for a steady and reliable energy supply. The GRACE and GRACE-Follow On satellite missions play a central role here, but must be supplemented by terrestrial methods in order to realise the required spatial and temporal resolution. Quantum technologies promise to achieve the necessary accuracies and be applicable across the board.
