Kurzfassung
Hydrogen-powered jet engine has the potential to reduce climate impact of civil aviation. Compared to kerosene-powered jet engine, some components might need to be designed to handle slightly elevated temperatures due to the higher combustion temperature. With densities around three times lower than conventional nickel-based alloys and higher operating temperatures Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) are promising candidates for hydrogen-powered jet engine. In this presentation a status quo of the literature and project researches for CMCs components in hydrogen-driven jet engine will be done. The potential of SiC/SiC CMC nozzle guide vanes will be presented [1]. The producibility of thin flexible cost-efficient non-oxide C/C-SiC CMC rings will also be shown [2,3]. Challenges and opportunities for CMC applications in future aircraft engine will be highlighted through this presentation.
