Kurzfassung
With a focus on meeting the requirements to address aviations impact to climate change, aerospace industry increasingly sees the need for the development of alternative airliner concepts. This paper contributes to this development with the aerodynamic analysis of an open fan integration on a strut-braced wing using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Software by ONERA, DLR and Airbus (CODA) with a body-force plugin for engine simulation. The concept of a strut-braced dry-wing (SBW) and the integration of an un-ducted single fan (USF) is briefly presented. It is shown how the aircraft performance can be gradually improved after an initial integration on a strut-braced dry-wing is done. This includes a position variation, engine axis alignment, and pylon and nacelle shape adjustments. The work done reduced the overall drag increase down to 3.3% compared to the configuration without engine.
