Kurzfassung
After a short introduction of the Grillo company the presentation will give a brief overview over the Sulphuric Acid Industry regarding the sources and the demand side. In the next part different applications of the Sulphur Dioxide Electrolysis (SDE) in the existing industry will be discussed to open the view for the economical potential of the SDE. Compared to conventional water electrolysis, SDE is significantly more efficient in terms of power consumption and offers promising effects for Hydrogen production, especially in an industrial context where numerous possible implementations exist in the scope of decarbonization of the industry. In this direction, as additional topics, the research efforts on improvement of the splitting process from Sulfuric Acid to SO2 will be addressed, utilizing catalytic splitting with renewable heat and the potential of using elemental Sulphur as an energy carrier.
