Kurzfassung
Pyrolysis of biomass is a promising alternative to traditional fossil fuel-based energy production methods, as it allows the production of valuable products such as syngas, coal or bio-oils. Unfortunately, this pyrolysis reaction is endothermic and requires high temperatures between 500°C and 1000°C. To reach these temperatures, coal or other fossil fuels are usually used as fuel. However, if solar heat is utilized in the pyrolysis process instead of burning part of the products, the production of valuable products can be maximized and the associated CO2 emissions minimized, resulting in economic and environmental benefits compared to conventional pyrolysis [8]. An innovative system utilizing PHCs in a solar particle receiver is being developed in an ongoing European project "PYSOLO".
