SoilSuite Europe

Kurzfassung

This poster presents the SoilSuite, a European-wide data package containing a collection of different image data products that provide information about the spectral and statistical properties of the European soils and other bare surfaces such as rocks. It is created using DLR's Soil Composite Mapping Processor (SCMAP), which utilises the Sentinel-2 data archive. The SoilSuite is available on a free and open basis (License: CC-BY-4.0) and has been used already in various projects such as ESA’s WorldSoils, German CopGrün project, the EU MRV4SOC project and by partners from the commercial and administrative sector. It is a valuable input data source for European soil property mapping and thus, serves for the monitoring of the health of the European soils. SCMaP is a specialized processing chain for detecting and analyzing bare soils/surfaces on a large (continental) scale. Bare surface and soil pixels are selected using a combined NDVI and NBR index (PVIR2) that optimizes the exclusion of photosynthetically active and non-active vegetation. All SoilSuite products are calculated based on the available Sentinel-2 scenes recorded between January 2018 and December 2022 in Europe.
