Kurzfassung
This paper presents a recently commissioned test rig that has been specifically designed to investigate fan intake interactions. The test rig is located at the Propulsion Test Facility (PTF) of the "Institute of Jet Propulsion and Turbomachinery" (IFAS) at TU Braunschweig. The state-of-the-art rig facilitates advanced research in propulsor aerodynamics, with a particular focus on the complex dynamics of modern Ultra-High Bypass Ratio (UHBR) engines. The unique configuration of the PTF, which includes the capability to simulate crosswind conditions, significantly enhances the experimental possibilities of this setup. In this publication, we present the capabilities and potential of the "Integrated Nacelle Fan Rig assembly" (INFRa), comparing its design parameters with the preliminary experimental data obtained during the commissioning phase. Furthermore, we detail the methodology used for determining critical parameters such as fan pressure ratio and mass flow, leveraging the available instrumentation on the test vehicle. This research represents a significant advancement in understanding fan intake interactions and their impact on the performance of contemporary aviation propulsion systems - especially during off-design operating conditions.
