Kurzfassung
As one topic of structural integrity, the institute is studying the impact tolerance of aeronautical structures and systems against high velocity impact. Bird strike is one of the major concerns during certification of airframes, both fixed wing aircraft and rotorcrafts. Plastics composites, transparencies and metal structures as well as systems, have been analysed. In close cooperation, experimental and numerical approaches are used to identify critical loading cases or to seize the damage extent. One key question for the analyses is the usage of a bird impactor model. While in numerical simulations, a validated model is needed, the usage of verified and representative substitute bird model is relevant in experiments. There are presented several examples where either gas gun experiments or numerical simulations with the institute’s high performance cluster were applied:. In addition, the institute’s non-destructive testing (NDT) capabilities by computer tomography (CT) have been used to support the experimental results.
