Kurzfassung
This thesis addresses the complexity in faced challenges when related to requirements management and traceability in space projects, with a clear focus on the Mars Moon Exploration mission (MMX). The study highlights the need for maintaining a clear traceability across the different mission phases, and aims to propose automation procedures in order to reduce human error while enhancing overall efficiency. An extensive survey was conducted and shared with engineers from the space sector, having the possibility of gaining direct insights of system and subsystem engineers, as well as project managers and professors. The results from the survey noted the faced difficulties in maintaining a correct work structure for requirements management, as well as the impact of staff turnover during the mission lifetime. All these conclusions were mirrored when the proof of concept study was performed about the MMX mission, where requirements traceability and correct integration in the model were major challenges. The thesis highlights the need for further automation and enhancement of tool integration, such as expanding automatic verification methods or reducing the impact of using different vendors’ platforms. The research concludes with a proposal for a new work methodology in order to improve requirements integration for future space missions, minimizing the impact of human factor and bringing new possibilities for the continuous development of the industry.
