Kurzfassung
The acoustic interaction of a fan casing liner with the fan rotor of an aero-engine was investigated in a full scale experiment in an engine test-cell. The results show, that the liner is responsible for higher sound pressure levels at the blade passing frequency (BPF) and its harmonics. The interaction between the liner splices and the rotating pressure field induced by the fan leads to a transfer of energy into cut-on circumferential modes that are able to propagate through the inlet duct. These cut-on modes increase the sound pressure levels at the blade passing frequency of the fan and its harmonics, as it has been observed in acoustic flight tests.
