Kurzfassung
This report describes the impact testing on leading-edge demonstrators with integrated hybrid laminar flow control (HLFC) systems. The focus is here on the optical geometry inspection and initial built-up of the numerical modelling. The full-scale demonstrators were based on a long-range aircraft horizontal stabiliser design. The HFLC technology integrated consisted of micro-perforated outer titanium skin which was supported by a carbon fibre reinforced plastics inner skin and ribs. The identical demonstrators were impacted with identical boundary conditions including point of impact, velocity and impactor mass. Each demonstrator was impacted only once, one with an artificial bird, one with a real bird. The design of the demonstrator and the test setup was built up in numerical models. The generated geometry measurements after impact testing were applied to compare the deformation caused by real and artificial birds. The initial numerical simulation results were compared to the deformation patterns.
