Kurzfassung
In the dynamic arena of military space operations, there is a critical need for communications systems that optimize agility and adaptability. We endorse the development of a mobile multi-band software-defined phased array antenna (MBSDPAA) system, designed for satellite communication and responsive space applications. At its core, the envisioned system will utilize electronic beam steering techniques, eliminating the reliance on mechanical moving parts for target tracking and enabling simultaneous acquisition of radio signals, providing multiplexing capabilities in real-time operational scenarios and uninterrupted communications across multiple frequency bands. The proposed system will be developed using state-of-the-art commercial multi-band and phased array antenna technology adapted to provide a mobile satellite ground station in a compact, lightweight, vehicle-ready form factor with the ruggedness required for operations in the field. Key issues will be examined in detail, including rapid deployment over diverse terrain, operational interoperability, flexibility, and enhanced situational awareness. The paper focuses on a solutions-oriented approach that identifies the technological underpinnings, illuminates design principles and propose several use cases. As military strategies increasingly move toward space-centric paradigms, the proposed antenna system could be a critical asset to enhance communications resilience and operational versatility.
