Kurzfassung
The use of ceramic solid particle technology in thermal energy storage (TES) integrated concentrated solar power/ thermal (CSP/T) plants offers high solar to electricity ratio and enhanced storage densities thanks to their high operational temperatures and wide temperature ranges. Metallurgical slags with similar composition to the state-of-art bauxite particles can be utilized as a sustainable and economical secondary raw material to prepare solid particles. In this study, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgical slags will be assessed as secondary raw materials for the preparation of solid particles as heat absorptance, transport and storage media. The effect of chemistry, crystal quality and phase composition will be related with CSP related functional properties such as heat capacity, solar absorptance and high temperature stability. Beyond their use in particle form, potential use as high temperature process components will be also discussed.
